Which is better to improve yourself: Traveling or Reading?

Even if we don’t realize sometimes, both reading and traveling work in the similar ways for humans to discover themselves, find new routes to follow in life and open new doors in every aspect of life. However, it is hard to decide which is a better way to improve us, traveling or reading.

Most of the time, the best way to get the answers of the questions in our minds regarding life is to either read a book to dive deep into thoughts and rest our minds & soul or travel with/without a plan until we reach what we are looking for. Doing this will not just help us to understand everything around us more clearly, but also improve us in several ways.

Well, let’s start with some motivational quotations about traveling and reading below. Then we will ask you which way suits you better to improve yourselves.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in you sail. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Mark Twain

Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home.”
Anna Quindlen

Travelling

When you start to travel and see new places, you realize that there is much more in this world than our comfort zones. In our daily routines, it is not always possible to appreciate the nature surrounding us or the richness of cultures in different countries. However, by traveling you can always relax your mind and stop thinking about your job or the things that make you stressful.

In addition, you will see that learning new languages & cultures are critical milestones in human life because at this point people try to learn at least some important foreign words in order to communicate. This step starts the excitements of learning new things and happiness of being able to understand foreign people.

Apart from these, if you travel long enough to feel homesick, you will realize how important your home is. However, this feeling will make you happy since you will go back to your city with lots of good memories to tell your friends and family.

“Travel makes one modest, you see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.”
Gustave Flaubert

Reading

There are lots of scientifically proved benefits of reading. However, without diving into so much detail, let’s talk about some of them.

Reading keeps your brain active. It helps you to have a better focus and concentration in life. It is kind of a treatment to lower your stress and improve your mental power. As you think about reading like this, it is really a good deal to read every day for at least one hour in order to get better health at least mentally. Therefore, even if you think that you are too busy during the day, just give yourself 30 mins to read and rest your mind. After that, you will be able to perform your daily tasks in a much clear mind.

Well, it is obvious that if you read more, you will know much more thinks and it will improve your vocabulary you daily use, the way of explaining things and your memory. You can see the positive outcomes of these benefits in school, social life and your relationships.

Reading also helps you improve your imagination better than any other activity. That’s why for some books we feel better after finishing the book rather than watching its movie. The scenes and characters we imagine in our minds are more effective for us to feel inside of the story.
